TITLE: Applying Lacanian Concepts in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy

CREDITS: This event fulfills 8 Continuing Education credits for licensed psychologists, licensed marriage and family therapists (LMFT), and licensed clinical social workers (LCSW) who attend all 8 sessions.

SYNOPSIS: This eight-week course will enable participants to understand key psychoanalytic and philosophical concepts from the French psychoanalyst Jacques Lacan, with a special emphasis on their clinical applications.
MATERIALS: Participants will receive a pdf document, via email, that will contain all the readings for the course.
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES: By the end of this CPA-OPD-approved event, participants will be able to:
- Utilize the concept of the ego versus the self when providing interpretations to patients. 
- Apply the mirror stage when working with identity disturbances, including patients with dissociative identity disorder (DID). 
- Alter interventions with traumatized patients by understanding how any unexpected encounter with the Real creates unbearable anxiety. 
- Lessen patients’ inhibitions and thereby increase their personal freedom by applying the concept of the Big Other. 
- Address patients’ problems with either low or excessive motivation by understanding the nature of Desire.
